Shared leadership - the heart of Urban Systems

Underpinning our commitment to great service is a strong and resilient organization. Unlike traditional consulting firms, Urban Systems has always taken a team-based approach to running the business rather than a hierarchical model. We purposefully maintain a flat organizational structure which places heavy emphasis on shared leadership.
Many people are involved in setting direction and making decisions that will have a significant impact on the company. In 2006, Urban Systems launched a formal leadership development program aimed at developing our leaders of tomorrow. This is an important part of our succession planning which will ensure the long term health and vitality of the company. We currently have more than 40 partners (shareholders) who are all active in the day-to-day leadership of our company.
Teamwork
Collaboration is a way of life at Urban Systems and high performance teams are a key objective within Urban Systems’ Vision 2010. This emphasis on teamwork reflects our fundamental commitment to partnering, which supports a highly engaging and collaborative work environment.
Quality
We believe that quality is a mindset. Staff are expected – and entrusted – to exercise good judgment and act in a professional manner at all times. Self-accountability is part of our culture and we believe that people will do their best work when given the freedom and trust to do so. In addition, we have developed a Quality System that supports people with the tools and information they require to deliver quality results.
Safety
Safety matters at Urban Systems. We are committed to developing best practices and raising awareness with staff about the importance of acting in a safe and healthy manner. Each branch has an Occupational Health and Safety team that strives to keep this important topic at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
